12 kilometers from Batumi, near the famous Sarpi beach, is the large monument to St. Andrew the First-Called. This place is especially attractive because next to the monument there is a small but very beautiful waterfall, which attracts the attention of any passerby.

According to legend, this is the route through which the Apostle Andrew, who preached Christianity in Adjara and ordained the first Georgian priests, entered Georgia. Some historians claim that he built the first church in Georgia in this area.

Although the apostle was unable to Christianize the entire country, his contribution is great, as he was the one who initiated this process. That is why he is remembered with great respect and his memory is commemorated in numerous monuments.

This monument located near Sarpi is considered one of the most important, despite its rather simple design. The author tried to express the spiritual strength of the first apostle of Christ with this simplicity. The raised hand depicted on the monument is believed to represent the blessing and protection of these lands.
