One prominent structure on the Batumi coast has been guiding sailors and travelers for over a century – the Batumi Lighthouse. Originally built in 1863, it was renovated and equipped with more sophisticated technology by French engineers in 1882. Since then, it has been providing safe navigation for ships in the Black Sea for 155 years.

The lighthouse's light extends for 14 nautical miles, making it a kind of landmark for the night sea. Its location is also unique from a geographical point of view - it is the point where the 41st parallel of latitude and longitude intersect.

In addition to its navigational function, the lighthouse building houses a hydrographic service, where specialists monitor weather changes and sea conditions 24/7. Today, the Batumi Lighthouse is not only important for its practical purposes, but also remains one of the most beautiful symbols of the city, perfectly blending into the coastal landscape.
